Forces and Motion
We are about to begin our new unit on forces and motion, also known as physical science. This unit will provide a variety of experiences through guided scientific investigation. As we begin all students will start with Lesson 1, of the text. Each student will proceed at his or her own pace. A required amount of work is to be completed by everyone. The weekly assignment sheets will reflect student expectations for that week. Students capable of successfully working at a faster pace will have access to materials needed to complete each successive lesson. From time to time I will pull the class together for a mini-lesson on the important topics covered by the text.
I believe that this method of learning maximizes differentiation within the classroom. It also enables me to guide students through the process of investigation, while each child learns at a comfortable rate. I have used this same style of teaching very successfully for many years in my home state of New York. The students were excited and had the opportunity to work with other children with similar skills in small groups. I will personally check with each child, on a daily basis to see what is accomplished. Look for my initials in your child’s notebook.

Science 7 Pace Sheet for the Week of 3/14
In Class:
* Lesson 3 should be completed, including the test.
* Begin lesson 4 - Storing and Using Energy in a Battery, pages 26 - 35.
* Be sure to complete your yellow sheet.
Homework: Complete the readings from lesson 4. pages 30 - 35. Summarize in your notebook.
Tuesday 3/15
In Class:
* Summarize lesson 4 and hand out review sheet. Discuss the key points from the lesson.
* Lesson 4 test today - study handout and look over the Inquiry before taking the test.
* Begin lesson 5 - Introduction to Forces, page 36.
Homework: None tonight.
Wednesday 3/16
In Class:
* Complete "Getting started", page 37 in text.
* Assemble pegboard and begin Inquiry 5.1, page 38.
* Be sure to take notes in your notebook as you complete the Inquiry.
Homework: If you are behind, please do what you can to catch up tonight.
Thursday 3/17
In Class:
* Read, "The Difference between Mass And Weight", page 40.
* Begin Inquiry 5.2, Measuring Gravitational Force, Page 40.
* If time permits, complete Reflections on page 41.
Homework: Organize your notes for tomorrow.
Friday 3/18
In Class:
* Complete the yellow sheet for lesson 5.
* Hand out review sheets for Inquiry 5 and summarize with the class.
Homework: Be prepared to take lesson 5 test on Monday.
