Forces and Motion
We are about to begin our new unit on forces and motion, also known as physical science. This unit will provide a variety of experiences through guided scientific investigation. As we begin all students will start with Lesson 1, of the text. Each student will proceed at his or her own pace. A required amount of work is to be completed by everyone. The weekly assignment sheets will reflect student expectations for that week. Students capable of successfully working at a faster pace will have access to materials needed to complete each successive lesson. From time to time I will pull the class together for a mini-lesson on the important topics covered by the text.
I believe that this method of learning maximizes differentiation within the classroom. It also enables me to guide students through the process of investigation, while each child learns at a comfortable rate. I have used this same style of teaching very successfully for many years in my home state of New York. The students were excited and had the opportunity to work with other children with similar skills in small groups. I will personally check with each child, on a daily basis to see what is accomplished. Look for my initials in your child’s notebook.

Pace Sheet - Science 7 Week of 3/7
No Class Pulaski Day
Tuesday 3/8In Class:
* Today everyone should take the Lesson 2 Test today.
* Begin Lesson 3, page 20 - Rechargeable Batteries
* Answer "Getting Started",on page 21. write answers to discussion questions in notes
* Begin Inquiry 3.1, "Charging a Battery", page 21. Be sure the battery you use is completely discharged before doing the experiment.
Homework: Homework assignments consist of work not completed in class. If you are on target during class time there is no assignment.
Wednesday 3/9In Class:
* Complete Inquiry 3.2 in class
* After completing the inquiry, complete the reflections.
* Work on completing you yellow sheet in preparation for a test on lesson 3
tomorrow.
Homework: Prepare for you test on lesson 3 tomorrow.
Thursday 3/10In Class:
* Class review of lesson 3. Students will receive review sheets of lesson 3.
* Take the lesson 3 test.
* Begin lesson 4, page 26: "Storing and Using Energy In A Battery"
* Answer "Getting Started question on page 27.
* Begin reading Inquiry 4.1, page 28. Note - you will not have time to do the
inquiry today, but read it over so you will be prepared for tomorrow.
Homework: None tonight.
Friday 3/11In Class:
* Before beginning Inquiry 4.1 obtain Student Sheet 4.1 from the side of the room.
* Complete Inquiry 4 and take notes in you notebook.
Homework: Have a nice weekend!
