Forces and Motion
We are about to begin our new unit on forces and motion, also known as physical science. This unit will provide a variety of experiences through guided scientific investigation. As we begin all students will start with Lesson 1, of the text. Each student will proceed at his or her own pace. A required amount of work is to be completed by everyone. The weekly assignment sheets will reflect student expectations for that week. Students capable of successfully working at a faster pace will have access to materials needed to complete each successive lesson. From time to time I will pull the class together for a mini-lesson on the important topics covered by the text.
I believe that this method of learning maximizes differentiation within the classroom. It also enables me to guide students through the process of investigation, while each child learns at a comfortable rate. I have used this same style of teaching very successfully for many years in my home state of New York. The students were excited and had the opportunity to work with other children with similar skills in small groups. I will personally check with each child, on a daily basis to see what is accomplished. Look for my initials in your child’s notebook.

Sceince 7 Week of February 7th
* Due to last week's storm, we will have our test on Lessons 12 - 15 today.
* New Texts will be distributed in class today. The old Books will be
collected on Wednesday.
* After completing the test, students will begin Lesson 16, Gravity and Tides.
* Begin Reading on page 244 and complete "Getting Started", page 254. Answer
all questions in your notebook.
Homework: None tonight.
Tuesday 2/8In Class:
* Have students work in small groups to complete Inquiry 16.1. Complete
procedures 1,2 and 4. Procedure 3 will be completed as a group.
* Answer reflections 1 - 3 on page 252.
Homework: Complete Inquiry for review tomorrow.
Wednesday 2/9In Class:
* Review Inquiry 16.1.
* Discuss Spring and Neap tides.
* Hand out Tide Review Packets.
Homework: Work on packets.
Thursday 2/10In Class:
* Go over tidal review packets with the class.
* Collect "Earth In Space" textbooks today.
* Sum up space unit.
* Allow students time to complete their spaceship posters.
Homework: Bring in notebook and folders tomorrow, for our new unit on energy. You must also bring your text.
Friday 2/11In Class:
* Begin Lesson 1 - Circuit Of Inquiries.
* Record all activities in notebook and on Student Sheet 1.
Homework: Have a wonderful weekend! See you Valentine's Day.
