Forces and Motion
We are about to begin our new unit on forces and motion, also known as physical science. This unit will provide a variety of experiences through guided scientific investigation. As we begin all students will start with Lesson 1, of the text. Each student will proceed at his or her own pace. A required amount of work is to be completed by everyone. The weekly assignment sheets will reflect student expectations for that week. Students capable of successfully working at a faster pace will have access to materials needed to complete each successive lesson. From time to time I will pull the class together for a mini-lesson on the important topics covered by the text.
I believe that this method of learning maximizes differentiation within the classroom. It also enables me to guide students through the process of investigation, while each child learns at a comfortable rate. I have used this same style of teaching very successfully for many years in my home state of New York. The students were excited and had the opportunity to work with other children with similar skills in small groups. I will personally check with each child, on a daily basis to see what is accomplished. Look for my initials in your child’s notebook.

Science Plans Week of 11/8

WE WILL HAVE OUR UNIT TEST ON THURSDAY NOVEMBER 18TH. PLEASE BEGIN YOUR REVIEW OF MATERIALS. EVERYONE HAS REVIEW SHEETS FOR LESSONS 1 - 6. YOU WILL GET YOUR LESSON 7REVIEW SHEET NEXT WEEK.
Monday 11/8
In Class:
*Complete and review Lesson 7 and Inquiry 7.2 (page 93).
* Read page 98 - 101
* Distribute Lesson 7 review sheets.
* If time permits, Begin Lesson 8 - Have students read " Getting Started".
Homework: Start studying for next week's test. Lessons 1 - 8
Tuesday 11/9
In Class:
* Begin Inquiry 8.1, observe the Sun and sunspots using "Starry Night", in class.
* Take notes on Sunspots.
* Hand out information sheets on the Sun, review the sheets with the class.
Homework: Study! Organize your notebook. They will be checked.
Wednesday 11/10
In Class: Today we will visit the I-Max at Navy Pier. We will see "The Hubble", a film about the space telescope. You will be given a worksheet to complete after the film.
Afternoon classes will have regular class.
Homework: Please complete the Hubble worksheet for tomorrow.
Thursday 11/11
In Class:
* Review the Hubble worksheet.
* Begin Inquiry 8 - Tracking Sunspots.
* Answer the Reflections on the reflection sheet.
Homework: Complete reflections for Inquiry 8.2 and Study!
Friday 11/12
In Class:
* Review Inquiry 8.2 make corrections. 8.2 will be collected at the end of the
period.
* Begin Inquiry 8.3 Analyzing Long term Sunspot Data. We will complete this
activity on Monday.
* WE WILL REVIEW ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY!
